So excited to start the “fun part” of our One Blue Sky project. Last week, we met with a group of school children from Biddeford, Maine, and started an international conversation about friendship.
The students were led in an a conversation about similarities and differences, likes and dislikes, as well as the meaning of kindness and friendship. The dialogue was so fantastic as children opened up about the ways they experience friendship and the things they loved about their community. One child discussed the importance of loyalty, compromise, and sharing, another shared about their favorite traditions and foods, and yet another pointed out the importance of the historic mills in the Biddeford community.
The conversation will continue in Iraq with a group of schoolchildren there. Samantha Robison of APTart will be leading the dialogue with a group of children there. Questions and answers will be exchanged and dialogue will continue for a few more weeks; The pulse of which will be the inspiration for the two mural walls to be painted in each city by internationally renowned mural artist, Pat Perry (PatPerry.net)
Students met with the artist over “Skype” to say hello and tell them about their ideas regarding kindness and friendship. Pat will fly to Iraq and paint the mural there within the week, and then be back to start the mural in Biddeford by the end of May.
Please remember to mark your calendars for a meet and greet with artist, Pat Perry at the site of our Biddeford mural: 15 York Street, Biddeford, Me on Saturday, June 1, 2019, 11-2PM
